Biblical Eldership

Introduction

Biblical Eldership

History is filled with accounts of the rise of great nations and rulers. While each one seemed invincible and gave the impression they would last forever, one by one they have fallen and disappeared. Only God’s Kingdom and the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ remain truly permanent and indestructible. In the New Testament Church, Christ has instituted the office of Elder to lead and care for His Church. This office of Elder is an extremely high calling. This is because the elders must be devoted to what matters most in life and that which lasts forever. They pour the investment of their lives into the kingdom of Christ, the Word of God, and the souls of people. In this lecture series, we will be considering together the Biblical foundations for and qualifications and duties of the office of Elder in the Church of Christ.

Introduction

Throughout history, we have seen the rise and fall of one great nation after another. They seem invincible, then they fall and disappear, only to be seen in history books. Only one kingdom remains permanent and indestructible, enduring through all the ages — the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. This lecture we begin by exploring the biblical truth that the church of Jesus Christ is a kingdom, with a King, and a government with officers ordained by Christ himself.
